As a result. total assets have crossed the eight hundred million mark. Deposits have again dupli- catcd the remarkable gain o1 the previous year by increasing more than $50,000,000. At the same time, holdings of high grade Government bonds have increased to $209,453,208 up from $150,708,385. Of Special importance is the tendency o1 cur- rent loans to move upward. as a result of the gains that have been evident in mB-ny lines of business. Shareholders will note with sat- isfaction the high esteem in which the Bank is held as reflected by an increase o1 more than a hundred million in deposits over the last two years. Strong Liquid Position The general statement, which is for the year to November 30, shows total assets of $900,919.700, ll/p from $758,423,904 in the previous year. Oi this large total, liquid assets have, reached $423,673,881, as oom- pared with $382,172,287 and ‘ are equal to 58 per cent. of total liabil- ities to year. 0i’ this large total, liquid assets are cash on hand and deposits in other banks of $157,830,- 042. The outstanding change in liquid assets is an increase in the holdings of Government securities of $58,744,823. Commercial Loans Up Current loans o1 $328,821,416. against $328,782,534 at the end of theprevious year, show a moderate increase which is encouraging when it is taksn info consideration that as against increased demands from industry on account of improved business. Liquidation oi‘ slow loans carried during the depression has continued and the general exper- ience on this continant is that com- ' mercial loans of banks are still dc- Mark-During Year _Dcposij.s Increased Over $50,- 000,000-Liq_uid Assets at $423,673,881 Are Up From $382,172,287 and Are Equal to 58 Per Cent. of Total , Liabilities to the Public. , ' » creasing. Call Loans, outside of Canada at $19,916,857 are‘ down $10,690,198. i This is likely due to the very iowi rates o! interest obtainable in the’ leading financial centres of the world, mainly London and New York. Largo Gain In Deposits 0f interest to the general public. as well as to the shareholders the showing made in deposits. These, now stand at $688,366,512 and are up $51,000,000 during the year. This follows on an increase in the prev- ioue year of over fifty millions, which makes the gain for the two years over 17 per cent. As was t0 be expected, saunas deposits in Canada have continued to gain and the decrease in interest-bear- ing deposits is understood to be due to a. policy of cutting out of the payment o1 interest on 3.19.1118 pro- portion of the bank's deposits out- side of Canada. Dec. 27—Thc share market tangled with realizing late in the session today after a smooth trip over most of the trading route. Year-end adjusment of accounts and tax selling was reported by brokers to have played some part in offerings. At the same time profit-talking was discernible in some of the recent gainers. A res, ‘able segment of the list was able to hold steady, and a fair number of gains were registered, especially in the indus- trial, oil and specialty classifica- tions. Mining shares gave the best performance most oi the day, fol- lowing the raising oi the London silver price a. shade, ending a three-week decline. The net result of the mildly ir- regular market was to leave the Associated Press average of 60 stocks unchanged at 54.8, with a small upturn in the industrials cancelling minor dips in rails and utilities. Wading was moderately active at 2,145,168 shares, but some 200,000 shares below the level of the previous season, which was the most active in more than a fort- night. In the bond market the advance in U. S. _government obligations which featured Thursday's session failed to carry through today, with most issues dcvwn slightly. By Guardian's Special Wire) OTTAWA, Dec. 27—Ali breeding cattle shipped from Canada to the United States after Jan. 1 will be subject to blood tests administered by United States federal authori-- ities. itrwas stdted here today at the Department of Agriculture. While this regulation is new. the effect on Canadian cattle ex- port from this country is not likely to be marked as Canadian cattle t l-T are now. and have been for souls time, subject to tests ‘imposed by the particular state into they were shipped. Under provisions of the new trade agreement, Canada obtained from the United States reductions ranging from 33 1-3 to 50 per cent on live cattle falling within cer- tain weight ranges. as well as on dairy cows. At the same time quotas were fixed on the various classes admitted under the lowered rates. On live cattle weighing 700 pounds or more the reduction in duty was from two to three cents per pound up to 155,000 head a year. Thisis the most important class from a shippers’ point of view. It has been reported the United States feared an outbreak of gang's disease and for that reason were insisting on blood tests. which Pres bytcrian Sunday School ‘Entertainment A delightful program was render- ed by Lhc children of the Presbyter- ian Sunday School at their annual concert and Christmas tree on Monday night, the 23rd inst... given in the church hall at Kerlsington.
