E AfltflE-QDA E L 11, 1982 6‘ In these times of es— calating crime rates, we citizens are placing more and more trust in our police forces to ensure our safety and the security of our material possessions. When this trust is vio- lated by these same po- lice officers, as in the Bassett/Grady case in" Summerside, something is definitely wrong. Why should well-paid men, respected and known throughout the community, commit a series of crimes against the very prOperty they are expected to pro- tect? A supposed major factor taken into consider— ation by the courts, is their abuse and or ad- diction to drugs and al— cohol. If this was restricted to one incident, one may accept that these of- ficers were beyond their capacity of rationality but surely when one takes into the consideration the numerous unsolved break, enter, and thefts in Smmerside area over the past few years, one is left to wonder about the identity of the un- known criminals. & . as C» / I.“ . ' ANOTHER THOUGHT from a SUN staff- worker. re: Remmberance Day. I see no glory in war no honour, nothing to be proud of; especially I when we've forgotten the freedom they fought for. We remember the history, the war, the battles, the people; but where is the freedom that we profess. We do not allow freedom in El Salvador, South Africa, Guatamala, Namibia, etc. and "they"do not allow freedom in Poland, Afganistan, ‘or Eastern Europe.
