October 29, 1996 KMFDM XTORT Wax Trax Records (A&M) Frankly, this album scares me. I am more at home listening to something light and acoustic rather than the driving beat, the hard edge, and the sometimes satanic sounding lead singer in KMFDM’s latest release. Anyone who appreciates Nine Inch Nails will really like this album. It is dark andmysterious despite being suprisingly upbeat for industrial techno. The band sends very strong messages in their songs, and they pick titles to represent these messages. “Power” and “Wrath” and “Craze” are just a few of the titles listed in big block letters on the back cover of the CD. *** Steve Ellis K Mart Plaza, 465 University Ave. Chariottetown 894-7804 368-3633 WE OFFER 10% STUDENT DISCOUNT ON ANY NON-PRESCRIPTION PRODUCT. DIG is primarily a guitar band. They do, however, add a bit of sampling to their songs, including sounds from the cosmos, made popular by the current Astro boy/girl subculture. I want to explain how drugs relate to DIG’s CD. Well, they seem to have a fixation with illicit substances which is apparent in their lyrics, especially the song titles. Twoexamples are “Little Pill” and “Mood Elevator”. There are two things that I really liked about this CD. First and foremost is the undying energy the band seems to have. They sound as if they would be really exciting to watch on stage. Secondly, I appreciated the irony of track eleven. It starts with a nice pseudo-acoustic introduction, which really comes as a surprise seeing as the song title is “Bashing In Your Head”. Although not my favourite of the CD’s I’ve picked up recently, I say- “Give it a go.” *** Steve Ellis ‘OY Pizl + GaRLic ALL SALES FINAL Axes University Plaza A portion of proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Women's Centre 00 9 Ov te Neer ne © 88 Oe le Or ere Fe FF PON FETE TES OR Fee Oe ree 8 TET ee 6 Ow CEE Ee OF Eee EO EER ee me ne Feet ee 8
