He is a charter member oi the local curling club. and was the skip oi the Island team that took part in the Domin- ion playdowns in 18-. On ‘Thursday night a meeting was held in the Grade XI class- room ior the purpose of organising the Montague baseball club. The meeting was largely attended, and a teanl selected to entcr the Southern King's League which was organized on Thursday night. Already the team has had two practices preparing for the open- ing game on Monday night. Early next week work will begin 9n the new diamond to be located at the north end of the Community Wel- iare League grounds. It is under- stood that. a bulldozer will be used to skin-oil the top, after which the ground. will be narrowed. raked and then roiled hard. A new high backstop will be erected, and pos- sibly players boxes. The Montague team which will play on Monday night comprises: Catcher and cap- tain. Ernie Carver; pitcher, M. G. A speciaimeeting o! citizens oi the Montague school district was held on Wednesday with Mr. Art Sullivan acting as chairman, tor the purposeof considering the construction oi a. two-room annex onsthe south side oi the present six-room school. Aiter consider- able discussion on the feasibility o! constructing a room in the base- ment. it was decided that. the two- room annex should be built. and the sum oi 812.000 was voted ior the six-room school had provided ample space ior all classes. but dur- ing the past eight years the num- ber o! school children attending increased to such an extent that morning classes were held ior one grade, and aiternoon classes ior another. Last. ar the situation became so ecut that Grade XI had to move to other quarters in order to make room ior expansion l)! the 10W!!! classes. Ag yet thig expansion has not been carried out to a suiiiclent degree. necessi- toting another expansion this year. As a nseque-te the Board feels that only two rooms will handld the diiiiculty. With an eight- room school Montague will now be in a position to alter educational iacilities to many who do not be- long to the district. It is under- stood that the Board is seriously cnntemplating adding runny ind; courses to the curriculum. includ- ing music. ‘carpentry, mechgnleg, painting and sculmeririg, and home economics. Should this program bs canted out students‘ will have a greatcr incentive to attend school so as tc iiniah their education. It is also the hope oi the Board that this new annex may be w built that it may be. opened to iorm a large auditorium ior community purposes. With an eye to the fut- ure, and the development of the Wllmlllllt!
