Contract At S.'-side Airport Near Completion A million dollar contract is just about completed at the summer- sids R. C. A. 1''. station and by the end of the week it should buboni- irely wound up. on August is. 1949. Baysidc Construction Co. Ltd. of Campbeliton. N. 3.. started con- struction of 150 housing units for the Air Force personnel and now just about a year later the job is about done. All of the houses have been turn- ed over to the Air Force and have been occupied. At present there are only seven or eight men employed fixing up odds and ends and they should finish on Saturday. At the peak of employment over 300 men were given work including those employed by the sub-contractors The units are divided into three types: Ninety-nine for sinner: and N. C. O.'s; 42 for senior N. C. O.'s and junior officers and nix! for senior officers. The area is now known as slemon Pork after air Vice Marshal Blemon, who formally opened it.last December. This was done in 1949 and was so successful that Mr. Weston expanded his idea this year for fifty more Britorm to come to Canada. and for fifty Can- adians to visit Britain. . The boys in Canada were ”oaen by the Y. M. C. A. for qualities of cooperation and good citizenship and for the ability to a.bsos'n what 8 they would see. From this Province besides Ronald Hard of Summer- side there was also Robert Nelson of Charlottetown. At Loss For Worh I Last evening Ronald was at a loss to find wordsto adequately ex- press the enjoymentheexperienced and the gratitudehefelt for being chosen. The boys boarded the line! Franconla at Quebec on July 12in and a half hour after they sailed the ship went aground on the Is- land of Orleans. The passengers were ordered on deck with their lifr-belts and kept there till they were removd from the ship on a tug. They were not even allowed in take any clothing with them but they recovered their luggage tlr! next day. Arrangements were then made to fly them to Britain and two days later they took off from Montreal's Dorval Airport in two parties. Ronald travelled on a British Overseas Airways strato- cruiser and before reaching Lon- don one engine conked out and they landed on three engin .
