Memoriam JOHN MARTIN LADNER The death of John Martin Ladnsr in his 70th year occurred at his residence at 40 Hillsboro Street. Charlottetown. Sunday mor- nlng. January 9th. The late Mr. Ladner suffered for the past few years with a serious heart sil- ment which caused his s ud den passing. Mr. Ladner was born at Bangor. P.E.I.. the son of the late John Ladner and Margaret Henderson. He was widely known especially in the country districts where he did business as an agent and buyer. which took hm to many parts of the province, where he met and made many friends. He was of a friendly nature and al- ways had a hand clasp andwmlle for all with whom he came in con- tact. He had the admirable faculty of seeing the best in his fellow man and the many beautiful floral tributes bore ample testimony to this as they formed a bank around his casket. He was a member of the Dundas Baptist Church. Mr. Ladner was twice married. R.C.A.F. (CP) - A royal com- mission to study "the whole mat- ter" of sutomobue insurance and new measu r:I designed to curb the number of highway accidents were forecast in the speech from the throne as the Nova Scotla leg- islature opened Wednesday. The predictions appeared in con- secutive items in a speech read by Lieutenant-Governor Alistair Fraser and recalled a statement by Premier Hicks a few days ago that insurance rates. whether han- dled by private firms or a govern- ment agency. would have to be based on accident figures. The speech said the royal com- mission probe would cover "the coat of obtaining adequate insur- ance protection." several delega- tions recently have asked the gov- ernment to take over operation of an insurance scheme similar to that now used in Saskatchewan in an effort to lower rates. Premier Hicks is heading the Liberal government for the first time since he took over the party leadership following the death of the late premier Angus L. Mac- donald.
