From a sanitary point of view the system of passinga cup from one to .another of a mixed oon8!‘€R&tion and withit possibly the germs of innumer .able diseases has been to many a revolt- ing one, and no doubt perpetuated only by perhaps,a justifiable desire on t-he part of the churches, to avoid inovations of any kind. The highest medical testi- mony gives strongcolourto a`very general suspicion that many cases of consump- tion and other diseases have had their origin in the com- mon communion cup. Fortunately however the subject is now engaging a good deal of attention from medical aid and others and a reform is in sight. THE GUARDIAN understands that this the first church in the province to adopt the in- dividual cup system. Tm: Gv_\am.\s's correspondent had the pleasure yesterday of being one of a party who visited St. Mary`s (`onvent, which has been put in readiness for the closing exercises to take place on Thursday, the lllbth. In one ofthe rooms which will be open to visitors until this evening, speci- mens of the work done by the pupils, dining the year are exhibited, consisiing of oil and water colored painting, crayon and pencil work and needle work of almost every conceivable variety. The e._\'hibition is certainly a beautiful one and a credit to the institution, indeed the opinion was freely expressed that many of the specimens shown would be safe at competition with the work of any similar institution in Canada. Theformal closing of the Convent will take place to-morrow, Thursday, when his Lordship, Bishop McDonald and a number of prominent clergy will take part. ST. JoHN's Episcopal Church, Ellerslie, was the scene of a. very pleasant event on Wednesday June 20th, when Mr. Patter- son Hutchinson of Central, Lot 16, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Miss Barbara A. Williams, daughter ofthe late Mr. Robert Williams, Poplar Grove. The nuptial knot was tied by Rev. ,Henry Harper of Port Hill. The bride who was supported by Miss,Lyle of Lot 16, was very becomingly attired in pearl grey cashmere with sick trimmings. Mr. ‘Cyril Williams acted in the capacity of 3 groomsman. The Church was artistically decorated for_ the occasion with potted plants. On leaving the Church a very pretty wedding march was played by' the -organist, Miss Rebie Williams. The happy couple together with a number of friends repaired to the home of the bride’s brother, Mr. Harry W. \Villiams, Poplar Grove, where they partook of a sumptuous repast and spent the evening in a pleasant way.
