Mrs. Gertrude Cairns, Summerside saw six male Red-winged Blackbirds in the alders near the edge of the Dunk River by Ross' Corner Bridge (Trans Canada). "Red-wings" have returned very early this year.u They were first seen on April A 11, in 1974 and April 9, in 1975, while I was in that area conducting waterfowl studies. Kathy Martin Univ. of P.E.I. Bohemian Waxwings in Charlottetown On Feb. 10 and 22, 1978 Jessie and Clara Cook saw a flock of 18 Bohemian Waxwings feeding in shrubs near the corner of Brighton and North River Road. Nora Longworth on March 8 and 9, saw a flock of ‘ 15—20 Bohemian Waxwings eating Hawthorne berries at the corner of ‘ Weymouth and Richmond Streets, Charlottetown. N.H.S. Now a Non-Profit organization At the March monthly meeting, the membership voted to make a ‘ small change in the constitution which would enable us to become a % non-profit organization. As soon as the documentation is received from Ottawa, we will be in a poSition to receive donations and have a tax-free status. This will be particularly helpful in our financial dealings with the Canadian Nature Federation conference next August. i 1977 Photography Competition . ' ’ ,' . -- Any member may submit up to six (6) slides taken on Prince Edward Island in 1977. There are three categories: Plants, Animals 3 (including birds) and a series of three to five slides which tell a i Nature Story. For junior naturalists, there is a competition for the best slide or print. Spot all slides on lower left corner of the front of the slide mount. Place slides in an envelope bearing_the, entrantfls name and send them to Margaret Mallett, 53 Fitzroy Street, Charlottetown on or before APRIL 24th. Prizes are'ofifered. Results ‘ will be announced and slides shown at the May 2 monthly meeting. I Articles Needed for Environment Week 0 Environment week in 1978 will be held the third week in May; The I society plans to publish a number of Natural History articles.in the '1' ‘ 1 local newspapers during this week. We hereby invite the membership to write articles which we can submit to the papers. The content should be seasonal (spring, summer) or topical (about Prince Edward Island).
