Treatment of Fuchsias and Flowering. After the leaves have all fallen off, the fuchsias cin be put into a frost-proof cellar where pota- wes keep well, The pots should be placed on it hanging shelf where the rats cannot molest them. and they cau remain there until March if preferred, until they can be put out o doers; but if the cellar is hght, tender s routs will put forth as the spring advancer, 'd unless the plants are brought to the open -ir they may become wire-drawn, and injured summer blooming. Water need not be siven very frequently——once a month if the cellar is warmed by a furnace ; 1f not, once In six weeks, for the plants should be kept in a complete state of rest. When brought up, cit back all their branches several inches, and dig out a large portion of the soil, and fill up w.th thoroughly decayed horse manure and coa’se sand, mixed well together. Fuschias delight in a warm, friable soil, and the above nic<ture is the best that can be given, both at the bottom of the pots and for a top-dressing. The speciosa variety of fuschia is a very rapid | crower, as every lover of flowers well } or April, or ; . 10 knows. | fiut to grow 64 feet in a year is a growth not often met within New England. Yet, there is a plant in a neighboring village that has at- tained to that height, and been covered with hundreds of flowers for months ata time. It has been fed with desayed horse manure and sand, and changed by degrees into a large bucket, where it now stands, and attracts the admiration of everyone who sees it.—Country Gentleman. Acids, —Fruit, if eaten at seasonable hours, firnishes all the acid which the system re- quires. When there is a craving for sour food, for pickles, or for lemons, it 1s generally a strong indication that the system has a real need for acids, and lemons or vinegar are some- times the best medicine to cure billiousness and restore the failing appetite. A year ago | saw a child pass through one of these poor spells. He lost his appetite and could not bear the sight or smeil of food, until he canght sight of adish of dried apple sauce, and then he was possessed with a desire for some of the juice. This seemed to refresh him, and he ate for his next meal bread soaked in the juice of stewed dried apples. After that, canned to- matoes, cooked with bread, helped forward the cure. Before this ill turn he had for a few weeks lived almost entirely without fruit, con- trary to his usual habit. Fresh fruit, eaten withoul sugar, and uncooked, is best. If made into pastry, the ill effectsof the pie crust is ; often greater than the good effect of the fruit inside the pie. As for the fruit sauce on the tea-table, it is better than a heavy supper of meat, but there is some sense dan the old say- a ate, gerne net ear CERTAIN Preservation of the Sight ' Lazarus. This elegaut picture has become deservedly popu ar elsewhere, and cannot fail to be- come so here. Though the finish of our Photographs cannot be excelled. we would direct atten- tion to the beautiful Giaece Pictures which we make. They possess a highly enamelled surface, and are practically indes- tructible, and will retain their freshness and beauty for any length of time. If they become soiled they can easily be cleaned, as they will not lose any of their beauty by being wet. ‘This valuable quality, com- bined with their remarkable elegance, make them very suitable for presents;. while the difficulty of their production will prevent them ever becoming so common as to lessen their value. Our patrens can have one or all of their Photos finished in this style—an advantage which cannot be obtained elsewhere. We give special attention to making Groups of Fam lies, Societies, Schools, &c Our pictures of children are sufficient evideuce of our success in this difficult branch of our art.
