Whilst miny ofthe bays ofthe respective the event of the year to them, in that it provides the only holiday for them, the outing is taken advantage of to give some military training without losing sight of the real purpose for which this movement among boys and for boys was first in' raugurited. 0o_jec':io:is have been raised against th e movement, in that whilst it is a religious movement, fostered among the churches, t has toe much of the military spirit and purpose in it. This objection is to be ex- pected and even was anticipated by the founder of the orginizalion. Hence the Boy's Brigade Council in Great Britain efuses to allow any uniformed company to parade in connection with the Boy’s Brigade. The onlyuniform nlloived is the cap, belt and have:-sack. Organizations copied from the Boy’s Brigidehave adopt- ed a full uniform. The latter organiz- ation only uses as much of the military as will provide an inducement to the boy bo associate himself with a. movement that has for its object “the advancement of Christ's Kingdom amonst boys. and the motion of habits of reverence, self-re- spect, discipline and all that tends toward a true christian manhood.” There is no secret in the object of the movement. Tie boy isnot deceived. He is most dis- , tinctly informed in the membership card which he receives. The aim is not to de- velope, to fostera. warlike spirit, though i it is to inculcate a martial spirit. If any of our readers would care to inform them-“ , selves more fully as to its aims and char- acter they will find a capital statement of the same inavolume of addresses by the late Prof. Drummond, entitled “Stones Rolled Away.” Henry Drummond knew the movement from the beginning. The problem it sought and seeks still to solve is “how to catch and hold the boy for the work of the church and country in the best sense.” All who have sympathet- ically examined the organization speak of it as having the possibilities of aiding very materially in the solution of the pro- blem, i That was the problem which faced, some seventeen years ago, a Sunday School teacher in Glasgow. Scotland. He found an increasing dilliculty in handling and retaining his boys as they advance in years. He was an ofiicer in one of the city's volunteer regiments and conceived the idea of giving his boys some drill, of 1. . And yet the drill and discipline must everremain strong features of the movements, as the means by which the higher and nobler faculties of the boys may be reached and regulate 1. ` The movement has done good in Great Britain, and is growingly an influence for good in the land.
