He was the eldest son of the into William Gillespie, El- der. Ca_rlet¢on\Point. He suffered a stroke of apoplexy about four years ago, which was loilowed by several others, but Providence which blessed Hr. Gillespie with good health through life was also kind to him in his latter days, and although feel- ing, somiewhat, the infirmltiea of age, he retained his faculties and his in- telligence, and enjoyed perfect peace ol mind in view of his approa:hing end, and his ni-m faith and hope in- dicated the genuine character of his Christian profession. In early lifehe was brought to a saving knowledge of the truth under the ministry of that eminent servant of God, the late Rev. Donald McDonald, by whom he was ordained an Elder into the Church of Christ. 'He was highlyes- teemed for his work's sake. The du- ties of that sacred ` oilice, he dis- charged with much faithfulness and with a single eye to the glory of God. Being 3 wise and prudent man, he was a good and sale counsellor. A pious, God-fearing man, a man of love and peace combined with stead- fastneas. "He was well versed and truly enlightened in the Scriptures. He led such 5 consistent life .that his loving life and example will long be remembered. His prayers were al- ways fervent in spirit. In all his life he could never part with anyone without giving good counsel concern- ing the one thing ncediul. His chief study was the life, suflerlngs, death and resurrection of -our Lord and Savious Jesus Christ, in which medl- tation he had much consolation. He has loft a pattern of good works to them that follow after, endorsing the Scripture which saith, "I am now ready to be oflerod and the time of my departure is at hand, I have fougbta good fight, I have nnished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of glory which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day and not to me only but to all those also that love his 'appear- ing." He was fully assured that his soul would immediately pass into glor and his body being still united to (lhrlst would rest n the grave till the resurrection. at tbelast day, when the glorliled.twain will unite in the chorus; "Alle lipdoi Amen!
