Ortawa, May 1 ‘The seene at the opening of Parliament here yesterday was a grand one. The wea- ther was perfectly beautiful. There were thousands of people in attendance at the opening ceremonies, aud the eity is full of visitors, After reporting the Governor- General's Speech the esis adjourned. The anawer to the speech will be moved to- day by H»zen of St. Jobe and seeonded by Carbeuld of British Columbia. In the Senste Senator, Prowse moves the emawer to the speech. The Governor-General, in his speech, said that the season opened suspiciously, and that he hed great hupes for the indus- tries of the country and for a plentiful har- vest. He referred to the setion of the Government in reminding the Wuited States Government last year of the willing- ness of Canada to extend and develop trade between this country and the United States. He also referred to the desire of this eountry furan adjustment ef the inter- national questions between the two evun- tries which have not yet been settled. The United States, he said, have intimated to this Government that they are ready to eonsider the best means of settling those questions, and he hoped that the matter would result in an arrangement beneficial to both countries.
