He wrote that beer was being watered in the so- calied baptizing process by substituting about a bucket of water for a bucket of beer in a 36-gailon barrel. 1 Worse still, Winstanley said 2 that when a pub-keeper pulls the pump and lets the beer overflow the glass in a gen- erous gesture. he isn't being generous at all. What he‘s doing is feeding it into a drain. or “econo- mizer." which takes it back to the barrel—to be sold again. This. said Winstanley. could be dangerous to health in the pickup of germs.
