The Branch Managers have complete and intimate knowledge or each local situation and are in close touch with crop conditions in all sections of the districts mentioned. Overleaf will be found an outline map of Canada. General In the Prairie Provinces, c;ntin- ued extremely hot weather without much-needed general rains has caused further deterioration of crops over wide areas. Severe drought conditions extend westward from southeastern Manitoba through southern Saskatchewan and Alber- ta. The wheat crop in general is now heading cut on a short stand. In Qudoec Province. apart from a section in the Upper Ottawa val- ley, where growth is backward, crops generally are making satisfactory progress and hay has been giving good yields. In Ontario recent rains. while fairly general, were in- sufilcient in the western sections of the province but elsewhere they have materially improved crop pros- tciidmicy to pi-emoturiiy. Growth cf corn and other me crops has been retarded by cool weather and lack of m:isture. I-laying near; completion. Curing weather was ideal and a slightly below average yield of good quality hay is being stored. Berries and early tree fruits were affected by late frosts with ersultant below-average yields. Late varieties of apples continue to make favourable progress. Pastur- es are in good conditi:n but require moisture to stimulate second growth. Tobacco plants have made good progress and are in a healthy con- tiition. Maritime Provinces All cereal crops, both early and late sown. are shswing satisfactory crowth. An excellent hay crop is 119111? harvested in Nova Scotia and a heavy yield is promised in New Brunswlck, where cutting has just begun. Potatoes and other root crops are showing continued prog- ress. Small fruits are plentiful and apples are developing satisfactorily. Province nf British Columbia A gcod yield of grains is expected. The yield and quality of first al- falfa crops are slightly below aver- age but prospects for the second crop are good. All vegetables are developing satisfactorily and good average crops are indicated. Thei quality ct‘ early potatoes is good,‘ with average yield expected. Straw- berries are improving in quality but the yield will be only 50 percent of average. Cherries have been ad- versclv affected by rain. and furth- er splitting and rot have developed. Apples and pears are sizing well and the following yields are now indi- cated: cherries 65 percent of over- age. apples and pears 75 percent. and peaches 40 percent. Pastiirage is good and there is ample water for irrigation purposes. !illnnrtl‘n that grrnl Ruhlilnr Llnlmam L‘8&ODDfiQ in per word; In filemoi-inni Notion, word. Oihr-r nuts: on application.
