i A Noted Inventor in Jail This morning in the Police Court | the name of Dr. Badcock was called. | In response a terriblewretch tottered to the bar. * What is your name?” asked the | { ceurt. “ Badeock—Dr. Badcock, was | the answer. When asked to plead to a} charge of drunkness, he said he wished # to explain the circumstances. He had, indeed, taken two drinks—twe small | ' driuks—but he had been paralyzed and | could not walk. He was not drunk. | He had been in the hospital, but was a | docter; and thought he could make a} living, and did vot wish to be a charge on the public. “I invented,” he said, “the fire and water-proof paint and : the chemical fire-extinguisher that : bears my pame.” It was indeed, the gf wreck of the Badcock fire-extinguisher. 3° “Have you a family ?’, asked the court. * Fes, sir, but not here,” was the rep!y. “ Where are they ?” “Tip Nerth—I don’t know where I fixed them up—my children—and seut them off, and I don’t know just where they are. I have been in the hospital just twenty days, and I came out too soon, and I cannot live in jail —I thought I should die there last night.” The court remarked that the case seemed to be one ealling for sympathy Ten DAILY P, E. iSLAND Steam Navigation Co'y.
