Ltd. on 7 Lower Wat- er Street last evening at 7.30 which resulted in considerable damage to the building and the stock. When the alarm was sent in the flames, which to all appearance ori- ginated outside near the western en- trance, hnd already made good pro- gress, so that on the arrival of the firemen the blaze was well under way _and much heavy smoke wa-s being carried over the city hy the light southeast breeze. . With their usual promptltude the brigade responded and giot to their work. Two streams were turned on, the men breaking in and getting .at the bottom of the blaze which ` had worked its way inside and was cy-agp. ‘ing along the walls and up through the second story to the roof. After just one hour the "all out" bell was sounded. _ The warehouse was well stocked with oakuni, rope, pulleys, pa.ints of all kinds, und in fact almost every- thing in the line of surplus stock car- ried by 8, shipchundlcry firm. The building was much damaged in- side snd out while the stock also suf- fered to a large extent. Both building and contents are covered by insur 11.71003. The exact origin of the fire cannot. be determined.
