On motion of Conn Prowse, seconded
by Conn. Rogers, the salary of Abi-ani
Henry was increased to $1 a. day. The
Mayor pointed out that Mr. I'leury’s
duties shzhld be defined.
The Maritime Contracting and Mining
Co., Ltd., notified the Council tlnit their
contract on the New Market House was
completed and risked for a full settlement
of their account.

month of October another engineer from
the same company visited the streains at
Oole's Mills, Hunter River, New Glasgow
, and Morell. After making various tests
he reported inter on not any of' the places
were suitable, in fact there was not any
stream available for the purpose, there-
fore we did not give city llglitlng `by
water power any further consideration.
During the engineer’s stay here,he visit-
ed severnl locations in the city suitable
for u power house, etc., nnd from liin 1-e~
porthc, beyond any doubt, recommends
electric lighting by steinn power. He also
visited the prqscnt electric light power
house and gas works and afterrcceiving
nil available iiiforinntion possible has
given us his report which I consider very
satisfactory. I hope the subject will be
submitted to ii pleiiescite votc,as it is
purely a inatf-er for the citizens to decide.

satisfaction. In the Arc Light system
interruptions liavc occurred and must be
expected, the ehicf cause however is the
open Arc lump which is admitted by all to

the question of municipal ownership
and havelhad a report of the probable cost
of A Light plant submitted by a conipct-
ent engineer. The cstimnto covers the
cost of a street lighting plant. also a pliiiil
for comincrciiil and domestic rlighting.

press. and it is the intention of the
Council to call a meeting of
Citizens at an early date. Tlit total cost of
City lighting for the year has been $5fiti7
