Current opinion is to the effect that monkeys carry about a heavy load of fleas. This is not true at all for monkeys do not have fleas. That seeming delousing act they put on when we watch them at the zoo is just a bluff to fool the watchers. The life span of most insects is very short. Take the may fly for example. It comes out sunny ef- ternoons of days in May, spends its time in violent exercise and dies before midnight. The May fly is water born. eats nothing from the cradle to the grave. In fact it has no mouth. But stranger stilTls the fact that when it reaches the surface the skin down its back splits open and lo and behold. out steps a dainty May fly. a thing u different from the water insect from which he came as the night is different from the day. A moment before it breathed through its fish-like gills, . and now it breathes air and would drown if anyone shoved its head under water for any length of time.
