Bible Society Following is the report of Mr. R. J. Rupert. the secretary of the Charlottetown branch of the Prince Edward Island auxiliary of the British and Foreign Blblo Society for year ending Dec. 31. 1948, which was given at the Society's annual meeting on Wed- ‘ncsday night: The year 1948 has been a record one in the history of our Local ‘Branch. You wlll note from our Treasurer's report that the regular receipts were $161323, plus it bequest of $5,015.36 from the [estate of the late Mrs. Isaac Cart- Icr. making a grand total of $7,- 631.59 for the Charlottetown Branch for the year 1948. Included in this total is an anonymous gilt of $400.00 ‘lllllCll was received by registered mail. Our thanks ls extended to this unknown friend of our Soclety. The bequest of the late Mrs. Isaac Carter was a most gener- ous one. It is another very tangible evidence of the interest of. the Carter family, who have been liberal supporters of the Society for many years. Their example l: very worthy of emulation. This year's record we believe may be attributed to an increasing interest tn the work of the Society, plus the enthusiastic (‘o-operation of tho 67 women collectors of the various churches, who in most eases worked perseveringly until almost every possible contributor had been called upon. Also the fourteen men of the I-Executlvt, who canvassed the Selected Names with such splendid results. Included In the Life Member-- shtps. again this year, ls one from St. Paul's Sunday School, presented to Rev. J. T. Ibbott, and one from The Willing Clrclc of the King's Daughters of ‘Trinity Uultvll Church. presented to Mrs. ll. C. Rlce. These two organizations have made t-he presentation of Life Memberships. an annual practice, and we commend their actlou to other Churches. By so doing you wlll be paylng a worthy tribute t0 a faithful leader or ‘worker, and also assisting the Society ln its great work. Your Executive wishes to eni- phaslze the need of additional collectors. so that districts may be reduced, thus lightenlng the bur- den for those who so willingly and efflclerltly carried on the work. To this end ti. ls planned to ask each Church to supply ad- clttlonal collectors next tall. The thanks 0' the Executive ls extended to all collectors for their cheerful eta-operation; to the local ministers who devoted a service 0n Bible Sunday to emphasize the wm-l; of the Society and assisted lri matiy other ways .- and t0 our newspapers and radio station for their many eourtesles. We believe that the work of the Bible Society, in ivhleli we are engaged, 1's a great an important one - and that it should have a prior claim on our time and money. _ V We solicit and anticipate. for the new Executive, a further 1n- crease in interest and giving.
