Letters To The Editor: Dear Editor, Asa former student of U.P.E.I. (class of °92), Ihave tried to follow the events that have occurred on campus. I wish to offer the following comments: 1) The assault -- When I heard of this I felt very sick. I was shocked and could not believe it happened. I also could not believe there was a cover up, and that the victim or her mother had to come forward in order for there to be action. It was a brave thing to do, and also the right thing. 2)Student Council -- As a former Arts Rep (91-92), [have some idea of how the Student Council works. I think Presi- dent Arsenault handled the incident very well. It is very important for people to act with reason and respond to facts -- notrumour. If everyone responded with just emotion to rumours, then every time a National Enquirer came out some sort of responsible being would have to hold a meeting -- the United Nations, the U.S. Congress, the National Elvis Sightings Committee. I feel the petition that was started was very petty, immature and destructive. Instead of trying to blame everyone for the The flair of Lebanon in downtown Charlottetown Licensed & Air-Conditioned Mon -Sat. 11am-Midnight Sunday 4pm-10:30pm ALSO ENJOY YOUR EVENING AT THE NEW RABA’S LOUNGE " A Nostalgic Setting” 81 University Ave Charlottetown 892-7377 A 10% STUDENT DISCOUNT os incident and trying to remove the President without any just cause, the students of this campus could spend their time and energy better by coming together as a community and by becoming involved in all areas of Student Union activities. The Student Union is here to serve all students. It some- times has to walk a fine line in trying to better University life for everyone. If you have something to say, do it ina constructive manner! Tracey, you will always have my support. 3)Libby Whelan -- I cannot understand how you could find any connection between the sexual assault and the *‘Back- lash’’ column. You might say because of the environment the column created -- bull. Not once did the column condone any type of sexual aggression. It was not Peter and Joe that " made the attack on your character, or so it was alleged that such an attack was made. I do not know you personally, but I feel that you must have a boring life and a driving need for attention. You have grasped for straws in trying to finda connection and I feel it is a petty attempt to have the last word. To rephrase your second last sentence by leaning out two words -- students: if you feel a professor or the material put forth is degrading please make your concerns known and issue a complaint. I hope this very serious incident has alerted people to the dangers in our society. I hope the student body can come together and try and prevent this from ever happening again. I hope the administration and police can get their act to- gether, so when it does happen again, no cover-up will occur. Thank You, Scott A. Campbell Class of 92 To the students of Marion Hall in a not asked for response to your article: Your annual house function may have been a success, but in light of the alleged assault that took place there on the same night, I truly do not understand how anyone could possible say it was successful? : I believe your policies were enforced, and I also believe that no doubt, unless there was going to be ten guards per floor, the scum and slime that ‘‘allegedly’’ raped that poor woman would still have done it! Another thing, how can you possible say that U.P.E.I. didan excellent job on the investigation? Has anyone been
