Reverend William Simpson, the presldent referred to the fact that it was due to his zeal and foresight that the home and school was ur- ganized in our district. Father Simpson in his address stated that education in the pro- per sense of the word is the pre- paration of man for a. life that would ultimately lead him to his true destiny-God. He referred to the false ideals of many educators at the present time. The three societies respons- ible for the education of the child are 'the family. the-church. and the state. True education is not the accum- ulation of book knowledge, but a way of life. - Father Simpson deplored the ex- odus ot young people from rural areas to the urban centres. The aim of our schools should be the cultivation of a rural cull- ure. Due to the economic condit- ions and the lack of leisure time the people in rural areas cannot enjoy the worth-while things of life. A vote of thanks. moved by Basil MacDonald and seconded by Mrs. W.
