On March 14, 1990, - Minis- ter of Education Paul Connolly announced the formation of the Provincial Consultative Commit- tee in Education. “The Education system in- volves many partners who play distinctly different roles in the ed- ucational process,” said Mr. Con- nolly. “Consultation and good communications are vital to the success of this complex organiza- tion.” Mr. Connolly stated that the Provincial Consultative Com- mittee on Education would pro- vide an essential opportunity for discussion on important concerns of the educational community. “T will be using the commit- tee to provide comments in sub- jects such as legislation, regula- tions, policies, and significant is- sues concerning the public educa- tion system,” said Mr. Connolly. Membership on the new com- mittee will be drawn from the de- partment of education, Regional School Units, Teacher’s Federation, the PEI School Trustees’ Association, the Home and School Associa- tion, and the Faculty of Educa- tion at UPEI. The minis- ter stressed that it was intended to supplement, but not replace, the existing consultation mecha- nisms between the minister and the partners in the education sys- tem. “As minister, I must rely upon the informed comments and advice of the partners in educa- tion to guide. me,” stated Mr. Connolly. “That requires that the partners have both the means and the opportunities to provide significant input into the decision making process. This committee provides one way to do that. The Rubber Band Effect Revisited An astounding breakthrough in time travel was announced to- day at MIT. The time travel the- orem known as the Rubber Band Effect took another step towards becoming economically feasible. Scientists at MIT have found the answer to one of the prov- lems preventing wide-spread use of the Rubber Band Effect: the prohibitive cost of constructing a suitable rubber band. Ever since the Rubber Band Theorem was proposed by a re- search team at UP#I last year known only as the Ghost Writ- ers, efforts to construct a suit- able rubber band have revolved around the use of rubber in the making of the band.
