IN MEMORIAM PATRICK BRENNAN Relatives and friends were shock- ed and saddened when they heard of the sudden death on May lath of one of Kinkora's oldest and highly respected citizens, Patrick Brennan. Born on the old family home- stead '18 years ago. following the death of his father when only a boy he operated one of the Island's finest farms. Possessed of a kind and quiet disposition and beloved by all who knew him. he was a keen sportsman and took an act- ive part in horse racing. He own- ed and trained many fine trotters. At the time of his death he owned the fine pacer “Abdem T. Ciegg" The late Mr. Brennan had been in good health until the past win- ter at which time his doctor ad- vised him to take several months’ rest. Up until the last he was quite active and only the day previous to his death he was about his home supervising his farm help. The following day he was overcome by a heart seizure and passed away peacefully in his home with Rev. Father Roche and Dr. L. K. Z'ieiln- ski by his bedside. He will be greatly missed not only by his friends and relatives on the Island but by many people from U.S. A. and parts of Canada who visited his home during the summer. He leaves one sister to cherish his memory, Miss Mary -B. Brennan. Three other sisters pre- deceased him. His funeral, which was largely attended, was held to St. Maiachyhs Church. Klnkora. Requiem High Mass was sung by Rev. Fr. Mur- ray who also conducted the ser- vices at the grave. Rev. Fr. Keefe was seated in the sanctuary. Pall bearers were Messrs. Arnold Johnston_ Leonard Keefe, Eugene Mclvor, Peter D. Mcivor, James McGuigan, Aden Mclvor. The many Mass cards and spir- itual oiierings testified to the es- teem in which the deceased was held. The deceased entered the hos- pital two weeks previous to his death. He taught. school for 35 years. During his declining years he was handicapped by his eye- sight. The delegates were welcomed to Halifax by Mr. Richard A. Dona- hoe. Q.C., Mayor of Halifax. Mayor Donahoe was the guest speaker at Friday evening’: dinner. In ad- dressing the delegates Mayor Don- ahoe paid tribute to the organiza- tion for the active interest taken in civic aflairs. Too few people are willing to contribute their time and efforts to civic government but are quick to voice their criticism he noted. Saturday's deliberations were tak- en up with business sessions in-. cluding reports from the regional oflicers. g One of the highlights of these sessions was the appointment of Regional President J. 8. Kelly of Moncton as a “Senator" in J.C.l. (Junior Chamber International). Seventy-one nations are represent- ed in this international organiza- tion. It was in recognition of an outstanding job done by the Reg- ional President. Considerable discussion was given to the national convention of the organization which will be held in Halifax in June 1955. This will be the first National Convention to be held in the Maritimes. The president‘: dinner and ball was held Saturday. An outstanding Jaycee in the person oi’ John H. Morris of Char- lottetown was elected Regional President. Mr. Morris helped to organize the Charlottetown Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1949 and was the Charter President of this chamber. He is a past Regional vice-president, and also held office in the National organization.
