The Guardian, Charlottetows, Fri, Sept. 10, 1965. “athlete for the SPORTS FRONT Track Program Is Concluded ic . Bob is very his work and his efforts were evident with ance turned in by Montague athletes at this The performance of young John MacLeod from Charlotte- town was one of the highlights of yesterday's opinion of this observer. MacLeod a young youngster who is (we believe) just 13-years-old. own extremely well against opponents three years older and quite abit Yothg MacLeod placed first running events as well as taking press that Red Point. lightweights defeated St. Peters Bay longest pull of the match which lasted over four minutes win the championship. : An_Interesting Event One of the most interesting and we might say highly com- petitive events on yesterday’’s program wes ap event which we must confess we have never seen on a track and field program before. What was it? : The final event of thé day was a rolling-pin throwing con- test, opem to any females wishing to enter. Doris Young proved to be without a match in this event as she heaved the rolling-pin 64 feet. : Mrs. James Bennett took second place honors while Mrs. Russell Bailey picked up the third plece ribbon. Charlottetown's. Heather MacLean was the top female with a total of 16 points. Female entries were small in the track and field events and three Charlotte- town girls: Heather MacLean, Rhoda. MacLeod and. Francis Whitlock were the only three competitors in serious contention for the top female athlete award. Rhoda MacLeod is one of the best running broad jumpers (female) that we have seen in some time on the Island track scene and it just happens that she is an older sister of John MacLeod who turned in such a fine performance in yesterday's action : The meet was under the direction of the provincial phy- sical fitness. association in co-operation with directors of the - annual Plowing Match fair. : Allan Andrews and George MacMillan carried out the officiating duties for the two day meet. Both these boys are well known on the local hockey scene and thev will be leaving the Island Tuesday to attend classes at the University of New Brunswick. MacMillan performed with the Maritime champion St. Dunstan’s Varsity team while Andrews toiled with the Borden Nationals in the Prince County loop. _'and 2:12.
