To-pay was the happy day for this school, Among the visitora who were pre- sent at the examination and closing exer- cises were His Honor the Lieutenant- Governor and Mrs Macdonald, Hon David Laird, Mr L H Davies, M P, D Montgom- ery, Esq, Superintendent of Education, Prof Anderson, DrTaylor, Thos Handrahan, RR Fitzgerald, F L Haszard, A B Warbur- ton, TC James, ‘I’ A McLean, Alex. McKin- non, H J Palmer, F H Beer, John Ings 4nd Donald Farguharson, besides many ather ladies and gentlemen. « There were enrolled in this school last -| year 448 pupils, taught by eight teachers. The daily average attendance was 335, and the percentage of attendance, 81. The reports of those who took part in the examination were very favorable, hough the attendance was thin—owing to special causes—it was evident that the sGhoul continues to do good solid educa- tipnal work, A reading contest hetween boys drawn from the two highest classes, for Mr L. H Davies’ prize, was the most in- teresting feature of the examination. It résulted in the success of Wellingion Nel- séu and John 8 Lewis, who were declared equal. The entertainment was very pleasing— though the extreme reticence of the boys when singing the opening chorus was very marked. It isa pity that boys who are load enough at other times should remain silent when an opportunity offers to use their voices with good effect At the close, short »ddresses were de- livered by the Lieutenaut-Governor, Mr Davies, Dr Anderson and Mr Mont- g@nery- homas Handrahan, Esq., presided at th entertainment, and the prizes were dis- tributed by the Lieutenant Governor.
