Hanover squane, the church cele- brated for well more than a cen- tury on account of the many “fashionable” marriages, celebrated there, is changing its rector. The ‘Ven. F. N. Thicirnesse is resigning both as rector of St. George's and as Archdeacon of Middlesex, and will be succeeded by his son-in-lnw, the Rev. H. C. Montgomery-Camp- bell, at present rector of Homsey. Although St. George's has to some extent lost its popularity with brides and bridegrooms in recent years there are still a. fair number of the younger section of the dwel- lers 1n Mayfair and Beigrevia. who, like their parents before them, seek this church when they go e-marry- ing. For many years when s bride left the church she was pounced upon at the church door by a motley collection of men of the district who called themselves, “Hls Majesty's Royal Peal of Marrovvbones" and demanded a sovereign in money as "ransom." An indignant mother of one bride refined to pay tribute, the police were called in, and the practice was stopped. It was shown that this method of collection had resulted in more than £400 being secured in s single year.
