Preaching in this ol.l I church acme years ago, Rev. J. M. Murchison safd; “I alvrays have a feeling of reverence almost of Awe, when (‘Offilllg to this place lo rich intradition and with so imany sacred memories!" Perhaps this is wihy visitors to the old church seem never to be in a hurry. its hundred and twelve years of history reaching into tlie_ past has made it a shrine of memories where those who come like to linger. Many interesting relics of the past have been pre- served and can he seen in the church. While scme changes have ‘been made in the interior, the outside is unchanged; the same window sashes with small lights of glass and the same old sand- stone steps at the door. One thinks of all the feet that passed over those steps in the decades that are past, for the first time perhaps as toddling children, and then one day with {altering steps as old men or ‘wo- men they PGSSPCI in and out for the Last time and are now restin: in the quiet. cometary in the shadow of the old church where they had worshipped all their lives. During the hast year: a rhart ‘r map has been mad» oi this o‘d eemeterv. as some of the first " plots taken years ago vuere laid off without rntich regard for straight or parallel lines. Making the chart. was quite 1m undertakiniz. Mr. W. E. Johnstone and his brother Johnstone were the leaders in this work, being assisted hy quite a number of the pint holders. The ehsrt has now been completed, enclosed in a nice oak frame. and hung in the entrance of the church on the first landing going upstairs. The lettering was done by Mrs. Chester McKay who tle~ oerves much credit for her artistic work. Generations come and no but the old church still remains, standing like a sentinel on the hill- side, not only as a memorial to the life and iwfifk or the great Missionary, Rev. John Geddie, but as a monument also to the Christian zeal of those early pioneer settlers who were its founders and builders so many years ago. The view from the grounds is considered to he the finest in a region noted for its scenic heauty. Standing in front of the and looking eastward one sees green fields and comfortable .homestieads, the winding South- west river, New London hay with Mcllwens island in the midst, Hope River and Cavendish hills in the distance; the long line of land dunes, the harbour white breakers rolling in across hhe bar and beyond that the sen.
