It any in almos most eyery department was more largely atteuded than ar Exhibition ever before held in Ontario, and the financial result» were greater than could have been expected. On the latter point a few laets may prove inter: esting. ‘The managers commenced ope- rations with a debt on costs of building or for recent permanent improvements of $25,000. The general expens? of holding the Exhibition was $20,000. That is to say, the total amount for which the Association was responsibie , was 865.000. The total receipts from | all sources was $52,500. This amount | covered all the expense connected with the Exhibition, and left a surplus ot! $12,500 coward extinguishing debt on uilding and permanent im- That was certainly a satisfactorily result. The total num- her of visitors footed up 200,000. The buildings are now becoming the pro- perty of the Toronto Corporation with a debt on them of $12,500. - —_— > <i <- cost ot provem¢ its. A Suaare Boy.—The other day a sharp looking youth walked up quick- ly to the counter of the post office in a country town and emptying a bag of coppers thereon asked the clerk, who was attending to other customers, for a dollar’s worth of one cent stamps. ‘Oh, you be bothered !’ was the an- swer ; 'Phat’s not a legal tender; it is ail copper.’ ‘What is a legal tender, then?’ asked the boy. ‘Why, one cent is a legal tender for a one cent stamp.’ ‘Oh ? exclaimed the youth ‘is it? Conic on then,’ passing a coin from the heap; ‘: one cent stamp, please.’ The clerk gave him one, ‘ Another please.’ . A second one was given him. ? Ano-~’ ‘Tfere, stop that,’ the clerk said, ‘Give me the raoney. It will be the shortest way to get rid of you.’ | Atter counting out the money he gave the value thereof in stamps to the lad, who was heard to mutter, ‘J thought [ would tire him out.’ ————— i> 2 ta The colored people of Toronto had their share of Vice-Regal attention dur- ing the Viee-Regal visit there. The night before their Excellencies left To- ronto for Ottawa, a colored band sere-}. naded them at Government House dur- ing dinner time, and acquitted itself creditably. ‘The members of the band were dined, if not wined, by his Excel- leney in the servant’s hall. ‘Two little coloved yirls present were presented to the Prineess who shook hands with them cordially, accepted bouquets from them an! talked to them kindly about their schooling, etc. Such manifesta- tions of interest aud sympathy on the part of persons placed as the Marquis and Princess are cost little; but in their effect they count for a groat deal. A sensational story has been going the rounds of the American press to the effect that Mr. Langtry, whose principal title to celebrity is that he is the husband of Mrs. Lanytry, was about to bring an action against his wife and the Priace of Wales in the Matrimonial Court. It is pleasing to be able con ‘ of the rnuor. Mr. Langtry, it 1s true, in tends bringing an action, but not against his wife or the Prince. The defendant will be the proprietor of the English journal which started the canard. Even the hus- band of a fashionable beauty has rights which the gutter-snipe press must be mad: to respect. >_<: oe Boschees German Syrup ean now Le purchased right at home, it is the most snevessful preparations ever introduced to our people. Constitutional Catarh Remedy CURES CATARRE, Hear what a Reverend Gentleman says of the Consitutional Ren.cdy. T. J. B. Harpine, Esq., Brockville, Ont. :— Deak Srr—It is now two years since your *Censtitutional Catarrh Remedy’ was intro- duced to me. [have waited this ong te see if the cure would remain permanent before do- ng this, my duty, to you, as at first the happy effects seemed to me to be “too good to a true.” I was afllicted in my head for years before I suspected it to be Catarrh. In reading in your Circular I saw my case described in many par ticulars. The inward “drop” from the head had become very disagreeable, and a choking sensation often preventing me from lying long, { would feel like smothering and ve compelled to sit upin the bed. My health and spirits were seriously affected. When your agent came to Walkertown in August, 1876, 1 secured three bottles. Lefore I had used a quarter of the contents of one bottle I found decided re- lief, and when Il had use:L two bottles and a third. I quit taking it, feeling quite cured of that ailment, and have notused any since until of late | Lave taken some for a coldin my head. A sense of duty to sufferers from that loath- some disease, Catarrh, prompts me to send you this Vertificate, unsolicited, with leave to make what use of it yon may see proper Yours truly, W, ‘TINDALL, Methodist Minister.
