AN old paper states that on June llih 1831, the ship Adelaide sailed from Charlottetown for Bristol with a full cargo of wheat and oa‘s, being the _ first cargo of grain shipped from P. E. Island to the mother land. The event was of extraordinary interest, crowds of sightseers were present. and the cheer- ing was in keeping with the occasion. Mir. S E. REID, General Agent for the Niagara Falls Acetylene Gas Com- pany, has placed one of his lighting machines in Love’s tannery. St, Peters Road, and the clear bright light with which it fills the building needs only to be seen to be duly appreciated. As most people are aware the light is some- thing similiar to common gas in appear- ance. but the light is of a paler cast, soft and easy on the eyes. It is nearer like sunlight than any light in existe ce, which is better proved by the tact that colored goods present the same cast by both lights. A detailed description of this light has already appeared in these columns and further remarks are un- necessary more then to say that “seeing is believing” and all who are inclined to doubt the facts already set forth should visit, the tannery an 'be convinc- ed as were all who have _ already seen it in use, that ’tis the light that nevtr fails. - THE remains of the late Bishop Mc- Donald and Fathers McDonnell, Dam- areul and Broderick were taken yester- day atternoon from the cemetery to which place they had 'been removed from old St. Dunstan__’_s Cathedral about two years ago, to the New Cathedral There was a large procession headed by the League of the Cross Band, followed by the students of St. Dunstao`s Col- lege io the number of 115 after which came a number ot the clergy of the diocese, next came the remains follow- ed by citizens on foot and in carriaggs. The remains were received at the n- trance of the Cathedral by Bishop Mc- Donald aud were placed in the sanct- uary of the Cathedral where they were left all night. Tnn tire at Dawson City which took plaee on the mo'ning of October 16. started in the Green Trade saloon as the result of a row between two wo- men of the town. Belle Mitchell threw a lighted lamp at another woman. The lamp broke, the oil spread and in a few seconds the building was on tire. The tire ofa year ago was caused by the same woman, who threw alamp at a man with whom she had a quarrel. A month ago she almost burned her own place in Dawson, by throwing a lamp at a woman, and nearly caused a con- ilagraticn by again losing her /temper and wielding another lighted lamp. I. O.
