The Second Methodist | Church Sabbath ol Pichi it Westv ille, West River, yesterday Was, AS eVery ody eX pected, a great success. There was a large ittendance of children and grown folk, and the different tables ws well stocked and patronized. The excursion in the evening in | the Southport was an exceedingly pleasant | feature of the affair. The steamer was decor- | ited with bunting and good music was furnished by the Artillery Band ard the Church Choir. The large num- ber of peopl present thoroughly appreeiated the treat. In all, about $200 were realized. The committee in charge desire, through THe EXAMINER, to return their sincere thanks to Captain McDougall and his officers for their kindness and attention during the proceed- lis. The Tea at Alberton. A «RAND SUCCESS FINANCIALLY WISE. Tae Provincial T: day, was, without doubt, the most success- ful affair of the kind held this season. trotting park grounds were fitted up for the occasion, and the tea, din- ner und refreshment tables were well stocked and patronize 1. There were also the usual games and other outside attrac- tions. The weather was favorable enough to have been *‘made to order.” The order throughout the proceedings was There was an immense on the grounds during 4 at \lberton, yester- ge rod ° g the day. All sec tions of the Island were well represented. The special train of ten cars, which left the city at six o'clock in the morning in charge of Conductors McGowan and Thompson, was thronged with people by the time Summerside was reached, and Conductor Kelly, who was in charge of the express which left an hour later, was in- structed at Freetown to honor all excursion tickets presented. At Emerald he put on an extra car, and at Summerside, five making six extra cars in addition to the regulartrain. By the time Alberton was reached, every one of these coaches was filled, every station along the line contri- buting its quota. The special was so crowd- ed leaving Summerside that it did not stop at any of the stations between there and Alberton, the ‘express, which came along shortly aftewards, taking up the passengers, In the afternoon, an extra engine and several cars were sent out from town, so that there were two specials on return instead of the one going out; both of which return- city late last evening. The fact of so many people being taken such a distance without a mis- hap or accident of any description whatever speaks volumes for the condition of the toad, and for the ability aad judgment of the conductors and other officials—better qualified and more obliging men than whem it would be hard to find anywhere. The ran through from Charlottetown to ' ed tu the Alberton, although somewhat long, was pleasant. The scenery along the route is very pretty, and the fertility of our soil, as shown in the early matured and bountiful crops, was forcibly demonstrated. Alberton is a thriving little village, with a go-ahead people, and has & bright future before it, ‘The people- irrespective of class or creed—are work si ing together harmoniously and energetically with a view to-making it the banner town {for incorporation is shortly to be applied ior)of the West. They are also making a big push to have the county exhibition held there every alternate year. True, they failed to get the boon this year, but it was only matter of afew votes. They will try again bext year, when they feel assured of Success, Rev. Father Burke has done much since he took charge of the church at Alberton to make the people of that place realize the importance of united and ‘determined action. He moves about among them, ascertains what they need, and is not atall slow to make their wants known | and demand redress. His zeal in the cause of religion is also apparent in many ways. | The Church of the Sacred Heart and the | presbytery have lately been repaired and improved under his supervision.
