Is Increased At At a meeting of the Prince ’ |\Edward Island Funeral Direc- Embalmers Associa- Charlottetown Hotel recently, a general discus- sion took place pertaining to the ambulance service on ‘Prince: Edward «Island. During the discussion it was |pointed out that a great many funeral directors fad embalmers in other provinces, whose bus- iness firms provided an ambu- lance service to the public, were giving this service up and am- bulances “were. . being provided by-private concerns or through hospitals. The high cost of maintaining and-buying vehicles for the am- bulance service came up for much discussion as did also the extra equipment such as ozygen tanks, first aid supplied-and oth- er accessories that are neces- sary for ambulance work and which are quite costly items. miniature poodle owned by Muriel Murphy of Belmont, N.B. was third. The childrens handling class was won by Paula Kennedy of O’Leary followed by Doug Ambulance Service Cost t Meeting It was decided, alter ‘much discussion, that the ambulance service would be maintained, for the present at least, but that the prices on the ambulance calls would have to be adjusted to meet with the rising costs of maintaining this service. ~ It was unanimously passed at the meeting that the price for ambulance calls, as of Novem- ber first, would be. seven dollars for local calls plus an additional fifty cents per mile, one way, for all calls outside the limits of the ambulance concerned. There was ‘also much discus sion'on the subject of ambu- lances being called to accidents.
