To cultivate the power of thinking should be one of the chief aims of the teacher, and thought was as often shown in a wrong answer as in arightone. Montgomery deserves the sympathy of every friend of education in the Island. We (Professor Anderson) wished to say a few words with regard to prizes. fie thought ita great mistake to suppose that those who fail to receive prizes are as likely to attain high positions in life ss those who succeed in win- ning them. ‘There are sometimes very diligent boys who do not get within the prize list; but who, by the exercise of perseverance and pluck achieve success. But experience had proved (at least in the old country) that the prize winners at -chool were also the men who reached high places in after life, and were able to fill them: It should be remembered that the prize was not merely a reason for work done. It is Mr. Montgomery's object—it is the object of every good teacher to train nis pupils to think. ‘To fhink is the great | prize which shou'd be diligently thought jafier by hoy may every scholar.
