La Grande Duchcssc. ._lf__ A Fl UAIING PALACE A Passenger in Search of Health Takes the Plant Line; Saloon of La Grande Duchesse, . July 25. I had not felt as bright as usual.Thei-e was not very much the matter but no doubt my general tone as the doctors t-rm it. had been depressed to a greater ptied many bottles of ionic, but to no purpose, but very littio aid was 1'6- eeived. My spirits continued to lower, and the feeling of pooilinese increased. At last I found it necessary to call on my doctor to seek his advice. “Your little excursions ,” said he, “ere of no use. I think you want io take an ocean voyage. By doing so you will breathe winds which blow fiom all quarters of the globe. you are carried into a titilly new sphere of life where every condition of shore wears a :ew face.” I considered the malter, and presently thought perhaps he was right. After consulting with myself for some days I thought of the Plant Line to Boston. I was told that a ship without its peer in eastern waters, filled with every mc- dern appliance known to the art of Ship building was concentrated in the Lei Grande Duchesse, It did not take me long to make up my mind as to what course to pursue. I called on Mr. W. W. C1srk,the Agent for Prince Edward Island, at his odize on the corner of Water and Queen. Streets, secured a pleasant state room After a few hours application to my wardrobe all was ready and with a small piece of baggage in hand I wedded my way to the Plant Line Wharf. I knew nothing whatever about the sea, and to me, save in the matter of size, paint, etc., one ship seemed un- commonly like another. 1 noticed.'however, that La Grande Duchesse was a magnificent ship, su- perior to anything that I had ever seen, and Icould not help remarking my observation to Mr. Clarke. In n fav minutes I was aboard. After getting a key for No. 35, my stateroom, I` went out to see the ship in which I would spend the next few days. The first thing that struck me was her size. She is far from being a small craft, her length covering 404 feet. her breadth 47.9 feet, and nor depts 47,4 feet( Upon enquiry Ilearned that she has a tonnage ot 5,000, and indicated horse power of 7.000, with a capacity for the accommodation of 700 passengers.. 1 took notice that La.Grande Duchesse, was new and clean; her fittings with s hint of dandiiication in a certain elabo- rate elegance 0! finish. It was not long before I made the acqsintance of one of the oflicers who. kindly showed me through the ship and I found it the most pleasant hour of the trip. The immense propsrtions of the ship, par- t-l0'118r1y tho great depth of draft, en- hances very materially her sea worthi- fiess. and it is generally conceded that it will require greater seas than any ever experienced in a summer trip to thpl Ifrovinces to cause her to pitch and While power and everythiig that _ goes to make a ship staunch has evidont_ | ly been the first consideration, her in- ze-_ ’mWW mMMMM Spring Trade The time has come when you should look up ygm- wurdrohe and se how you are fixed for sp:-in w'g|`_ . . 3 __ In the event of you deciding to invest in ' n suit or . prvgercoat, etc., set promptly-.by 0,4”-ins the “me m J. 1'.
