Loenpon, April 25 Sir Charles Tupper’s reply to Sir SH. n y Tyler's statements at the meeting of the Grand Trunk shareholders appears in the London Times to-day, Sir Charles attacks the action of the President of the Grand Trunk on every point. Germany's Greatest Soldier, Death of Couat Von Moltke. Bern, April 25. Count Von Moltke, Germany’s greatest soldier, died suddenly yesterday of heart failure, {Count Von Moltke, the great general, was burn in Mecklenburg in the year 1800. He was the son ofa Danish general. He entered the Prussian service in 1822, and was employed by the Sultan of Curkey from 1835 to 1839 in improving Turkish fortifications. Here he saw active service in the war against the Kurds and also in Evypt. In 1858 he became chief of the general staff of the Prussian army, and planned the operations of the wars with Denmark (1864) and Austria (1866) But it was the war with France in 1870 that made his name famous and showed the world what a great general he was. It was his system of attack which gained the con- tinuous victories of the German army. He was successively made count, general field- marshal and life member of the Upper House of the German parliament. | Women Left to Drown. A Cowardly and Dastardl y Act Sr. Joun, N.B., April 25. A freshet of the St. John River pouring into this harbor, caused a party of twelve in a row-boat returning from a dance in Carleton yesterday morning to foul the bow of the steamer Dominion. All were tossed into the furious tide. Two ladies were drowned. One lady and all the men were rescued. The men acted a brut] part and saved themselves, leaving the ladies to drown.
