The playwright who igno- res this, and Griffith is not one oi them. ignores thc spirit of the people. Griffith iis essentially a iplay wright, ibnth by natureand train- ing, and he is wise in hi5 generat- ion to seize upon those themes which are closest to the hearts of our people. The greatest thing in life, that which is responsible for flowering the earth with children, is love human love, if it must be so de- signated. A few drops applied directly up- on a tender, aching corn should relieve the soreness instantly, and soon the entire corn, root and all, can the lifted out with the fingers without pain. ' This new drug called freezone is an ether compound discovered by e Cincinnati man, who says that while freesone is sticky it dries in a moment, and simply shrivels up the corn without influming or even isritailng the surrounding tis- sue or skin. Don't let fathendie of infection or lockiaw from whittling at his coriis, ‘but cut this out and make him try it. Such is the theme of Griffith's story, with Lillian Gish in an ex- quisite‘ portrayal of the thorough- ly feminine character that seeks to be impressed. her performance striulght through ‘being without a blemish, a. beautiful characterizat- ion. A crowded house at the Prince Edward began artistry, a wondrous scene in the air, of upcurllng smoke from ex- ploding bombs, across which an oc- casional airship was seen darting, and these scenes arc beyond the ordinary, as far removed from clap trap as any of the kind ever shown on the screen. That applause rises as the action goes on partly from relieved suspense, partly because we realize now that we are read- ing history in picture form.
