of 70,000 boxes to be rolled by the
American Sheet and Tin Plate

Dear Dad,-Thought l would drop
you ii line. We have been at the front
some time now, holding our own line
of trenches. I was up to the trenches
day ago. They are about 5 ft. high,
built with sandbags, etc.. and about
every ten yards are dugouts. shell-
proof. lf the trench is sholled the
men go inside. lt‘s in one of those
that our telegraph instruments run.
But l nm back operating at head-
quarters O.K. The German trenches
are from 80 to 800 yards from oursw
and if ii. man is killed he gets lt
through the top of his head. Our
town was shelled by them o few days
ago, and 3 mon killed and 14 wounded.
I saw the men killed, several were
gathered tn a. bunch watching shells
fall. when one fell in among them.. I
see some queer things. We are quite
comfortable, have lots of blankets,
clothes, food, etc., and we are in a
position to buy tea and coffee, so all
is woll. The towns are shelled quite
