Mrs. Ho of Boston, was murdered on ithe Tobique yesterday by salmon poachers }whe ambuscaded a fis"ing party and riddied their canoe with bullets from repeating rifles. A more dastardly and fiendish out- rage it was impossible to imagine. Re venge for interference with unlawful work prompted the aftack, which resulted in the death of an estimable lacy before the eyes of her husband, sons and daughter, About three weeks agv Major Howes went up the with a family party on an extended fishing trip, The family party consisted of seven persons, Major Howes, his wile, his daughter and three sons, with Mr. Lincoln, of Boston, and were accompanied by four ves, iriver Indian guides. It is stated that while at ‘camping ground Mijor Howes detect- led a party of salmon spearers at work and gave chase, and _ that his determined pursuit arose the deadly ire lof the poachers, who, if rumor be correct, lived not far from camp. The party was coming down the river in a Canoe, and when turning a bend in the river a few miles below Gulquac, a fusilade was opened on the little fl tila by some persons located in the bushes that lined the shore. The third shot struck Mrs. Howes on the left temple and passed out behind her right ear, killing her instantly. Some of the rifle bullets struck the eanve, and fire was kept upon each little boat as it rounded the point. It is impossible to convey any idea of the exitement that prevails bore, but it | would go bard with the dastardly assassins if the peuple could lay hands on them, | | Halifax Happenings.
