OTTAWA, July 14-Having travell- ed nearly twelve thousand miles, re- viewed one hundred and thirty units and inspected every camp, sm- 1nn Hamilton, inspector .General of-the Overseas Forces, and CQ1_ San; Hughes, Minister of Militia, returned to Ottawa this morning. With the tireless Minister of Militia as his cicerone. Sir fan made the trip of ln- BIl¢0ti0n from Hamilton to Vancouver and back again in record time, hav- ing left Ottawa on June 6th. No man has ever seen as much of Can- ada in as short a time as General Hamilton. In fact the General him- self remarked that "travelling with Col. Hughes is like travelling with a comet." GENERAL WELL PLEASED. “I was delighted with the trip,”-’ said General Hamilton. "I found the men very keen, their spirits were fine, while they were very enthusiastic. The way they kept the camps shows how anxious the men were to keep up to the mark. The officers also show- ed particular interest in the man- oeuvres and any criticism we might make." “I had great pleasure in meeting so many old soldiers. I met no end of nicn who served under me. I found the men without a solitary exception well satisfied with Canada. “I met men who served under me in India, South Africa, and even up t\i~ Nile in the Gordon expedition. I also met two men, one at Victoria and the other at Winnipeg, who fought with me at Maluba. “At Prince Edward Island I met an old soldier who'wns born at the same place I was, at Corfla. I was pleased to see the number of old members of the Royal Engineers I met. Canada could not get a finer type of soi- dier." ' General Hamilton would make nn further comment in the result of his expedition, which will be saved for his 1-eport. He will bo in Ottawa until July 24 preparing his renort. when he will re- turn to England, and wilfl probably go to the Mediterranean. Ho will go to New Zealand in January. A NEW REGIMENT FOR N. B.
