A‘ few years ago they were burned out in the disastrous fire that \burned many of the prominent business places of Richmond. Mr Larkin leaves his widow. one son John, and five daughters, Mar- jorie, Elednor and Renods It home, and Mary. s teacher in St. Paul, Minnesota, and the other daughter is a Sister in the Con- vent, at St. Paul, Nilnn. One sister also survives, Mrs. John Gillie at Sydney, Cape Breton-S. . On January 3rd, there passed pcacefuly to her eternal rest, Mrs. SC. Pierce, nee Hannah Jane Wyatt, widow of the late Samuel Csmick Pierce. Mrs. Pierce was born at Winsloe, P.E.I., '17 years ago, and resided there all her life with the exception of the last few years when on aocouunt of failing health, she moved to Charlotte- town. Up to the time of ill health Mrs. Pierce was an active Chris- tian worker in the Uniud Church at Winsloe, formerly the Metho- dist church, being s. valued mem- ber of the choir and an ardmt Sunday-school worker almost from the time of her uniting with the church, when but young in Y0"!- Her home hospitality was abund- ant and it was rsre indeed that one of her ministers was not a guest. over the week end and in any event alwlys at the noon meal on the Sabbath day. The cases were heard jointly, C. St. (fair Trainor appearing for the Crown and J. J. Johnston, K. C. for the appellants. Mr. Johnston asked that they be allowed on the grounds that the seizure took place on July lst, and according to the summonses the offense was committed sometime "between July 1st and July 15th." This wording. he claimed, would ex- clude the 1st. of July. The Court agreed and granted the amieul with costs. The court was then adjourned until 11 a. m. She was born in Valleyfield P.E.I., June 1, 1858. She was the widow of Rev. George MacLennan who was minister cf the congregation of Caledonia, P. E I., from January 22, 1907 until his death September 2, 1W9. MANSLAUGIITER CHARGE LAID-A charge of manslaughter was laid yesterday against Reuben Higgins and Harold Currie John- stone River in connection with the recent sudden death of James Dunphy of Johnston's River The charge was laid before Magistrate Tweedy Mr. Dunphy was found dead on his bed by a neighbor-on the morning of Dec 22nd. last. He was fully clothed and examination discosed that he came to his death ns a result of a fractured skull. Au inquest was held last week and ii was learned that Higgins and Currie were the last to be seen with ihc deceased on the night of Doc. 20th in Charlottetown. Both nnrn claimed that Dunphy had ‘lumped out of the truck, in which jthey were driving, on the way to ‘,i'ie wharf at the foot of Queen Street. According to their evidence ‘they nicked the man up and took him home, placing him in bed. vrhere he was later found deed. Both men stated they thoulht the irlsceaserl was only knocked out. The verdict brouuht in by the jury at the inquest was "that on the night of Dee. 20th. 1930, the de- ceased came to his death in Chu- lottctown by a truck passing over his head driven by Herold Currie accompanied by Reuben Higgins. and by negligence in not summon- ing medical aid."
