In the final heat of the Hop Bitters Re- gatta Laycock took first money, Koss second, Hosmer third, and Smith fourth. The strag- gle between Laycock and foss for first place was very tight. CANADIAN. Hatirax, Noy. 18. The coroner’s inquest on Stellarten vic- tims was in progress at New Glasgow all day. Five witnesses were examined, but nothing was elicited indicating the cause of the disaster. It is believed that the flood- ing of the mine has already fully extin- guished the fire. Efforts for relief are being made in all quarters. At a meeting in Halifax to-day over $1,500 was sub- scribed, anda strong committee was ap- pointed to canvass the city. EUROPEAN. Dusit, Nov. 18. ‘ The report that reinforcements are to be sent to Ballinrobe is untrue. Lonpvon, Nov. 18. The Times repeats its statement of yes- terday that there are ‘differences in the Cabinet. It says the arguments in favor of coercion in Ireland are urged as strongly as ever, and that the Cabinet is certainly not decided on setting them aside. On the other hand the objections of Bright and Chamberlain have not been surrendered. [t may be assumed that the question is an open one, but every day tends to its settle- ment in a sense favorable to the contention of Bright and Chamberlain. New York, Nov. 18. A London despatch says there were rumors there last night of disagreements in the Cabinet meeting yesterday. Prior to the meeting. Bright assured Gladstone and Granville that if coercion by the army was attempted in Ireland, he will resign from the Cabinet. lt 13 stated that if Bright resigns, Forster will go with him, and Earl Derby will take Forster’s place. Derby is reported to have had an inter- view with Gladstone last evening. New York, Nov. 18. A cable from London says the news from Ireland continues alarming. It is now feared there is only tou much foundation for reports that the peasantry are arming and only waiting for a favorable oppor- tunity to defy the authority of the govern- ment. Alarming reports are continually pouring in from all parts of the Island. Lonpon, Nov. 18. A telegram from Cork reports that two brothers named Moore have been arrested on the charge of being concerned in the murder of Mr. Wheeler.
