As a decided well wisher tothe cause of Teimperance in general, and to this society in particular, { have to request you to present to them in my name Five Pounds, as a small mark of my approbation, with my most earnest *s that their numbers may. daily increase, bringing joy and_peace into Many a home where pow sorrow and strife reign. : I have been mueh interested of late in thie fraternity by the pleasing accounts } have'learned of ite success from Mr, But- chef, and'® very inteliigent man in the | employment of Mr. Butcher’s son, of the name of Fielding. | Believe'me, very trul oe pe ee BANNERMAN, 20th Junie, 1851." Ppp ee TO THE ELCTOR: OF THE, SF COND ECTORAL - KING'S COUNTY. a a Cee ee a oe is Excellency the Lieutenant Gover- por in Coancil having been this. day pleased to appoint me to the office of Queen’s Printer, the trust with which I have been long honoured by you has, therefore, returned to your hands, In justice to myself | may state, that the appointmerit was procured by no en- treaty Or solicitation upon my part. It has veen bestowed, I presume, as an ac- knowledgment of my humble exertions— in conjenction with those of my fellow labourers in the Legislature—to obtain for the inhabitants of this Colony that en- larged ‘measure of Political liberty, and that truly British controul over the ad- tninistration of their public affairs, which are the boast and birth right of English. men, and the concession of which to the other British American Colonies has been attended wiih the happiest results, Before many weeks you will again be called “wpom to exercise your elective franchike;in conformity with the law; end ie doing so, you will have a suitable oppertunity for recording your opinions either it favour of, or against, the prin- ciples upon which yeur Government is now conducted. I Aave, indged, the presumption to think, that I have served you to the full extent of my ability—that | have endeavoured to meet your just wishes in regard to the local wants. of the District; and, taking my own long-establishec and well-known political principles for my guidance in the discussion and settlement of public questions, | have been induced to believe that those principles happily met with your entire approbation. Grateful as I am to his Excellency the Lieutenant ‘Governor for my appoint- ment to the-effice of Queen’s Printer. and to him and tothe Party with which | have the honour. to associate, for my elevation to a seat in the Exeeative Conncil,—yet the position in which you placed me, on two oceasions,as one of your Representa- t'ves in Parliament, has been to me far more estimable than any, honor or emolu- inent which our Queen or Her Represen- tative could confer; and, | must confess, that it is with nd little anxiety I look for- ward to that- approaching period, when | trust ta be restored to that position—when our mutual confidence and. good will shall be re-established—and my -debt of grati- tude to you be materially augmented. No per- son wae injured on board the St. John, but we learn that two cows and two calves on board of her were knocked overboard by the violence of the concussion, and lost.— The St; John came through the Falls this morning, in order to ascertain the damage and:be repaired. ‘The repairs will proba- bly ocupy come weeks. “The expense and loss of time, at this time of the year, will, we fear, bear heavy on the pruprie- ‘tors.
