SUMMERSAIDE taint Murray Scott; Forwards, John At Charlottetown By N. Glasgowi ANTIOONIBH, Oct. 3i. — Cross-A ing their opponents’ line for three tries in the initial period of this at» ternoon‘s game in The Halifax Her- ald and The Evening Mail ‘senior interscholastic rugby series, New Glasgow Academy defeated 8t. Francis Xavier Academy 0-0. The contest was played on a muddy field dotted with puddles. and good foot- ball was out of the question. New Glasgow took the over-c0n- fident Xaverians completely by sur- prise in the first period and clearly outplayed them. John Allan scor-. edthe first try from a mixup near the Xavier line. Murray Scott fol- lowed with the next one under al- most identical circumstances. For a brief‘ period the Xaverians were a menace and the visitors were forced to touch for safety. Before the in- terinisslon Bill Buck grabbed the ball f'rcin ii niixup near the St. F. X. chalk mark and crossed the line for the third try. l Si-oreless in Second The Xaverians tried desperately to turn defeat into victory in the last period and succeededin holding the visitors scoreless. ‘It was not until five minutes before the final whistle however, that the Xaverlans got going properly. They threw their full weight into an eleventh I "I'~ZYY‘ x I THE CHARLOTTETOWN GUARDIAN stir. x. Is Defeated i‘ hour assault, depending largely on dribbling. Five or six times the ball was almost carried over the linci or just over it from mixups near? the New Glasgow chalk mark. Each} time the ball was buried beneath n} scrambling heap oi‘ inud-coveredj youths, but none of the several tit-i tempts resulted in a try. It was the first contest in the‘ home and home games in the semi-, finals of The Herald and The Mail! series, total scores to count. Thci’ second game will be played in New Glasgow next week. Rev. Hackett. o; MA- ~ City Leagiuers Draw‘ In Important Game HALIFAX, Oct. 31. —Wandercrs and Dalhousic played a three all game in the City Rugby League Saturday afternoon, at the Wander- ers‘ Grounds, and once again the league standing is deadlocked. Ii was a. game in which good and bad football was played-mostly bad. Entering the play a heavy favorite. the Dalhousie machine failed to function properly. Wanderers were however. better than their previous game and the gameness stood out as the big feature of the encounter. For 67 of the '70 minutes of play, the clubmen played 14 men against 15. Jack Boyd, the husky Wanderers‘ forward fell heavily to the ground shortly after play opened and an examination revealed that two of his ribs were fractured. He retired. Red Scrum in Front Minus one of their strong men in the scrum. Wanderers‘ did not look so good. but they surprised the 2500 spectators by completely outiilaying and outgaiiiiiig the college scrum The figures show that Wanderers controlled the ball 30 times in the ‘.46 scrimmages. Dalhousie. on the other hand puntcd much more ac- curatcly than Wanderers‘. Mc- Leod. the college fullback made some long gains with the slippery ball. But his long kicks were beau- tifully returned by Bobby MacCoy. who made his return to the game Saturday. Despite a badly crippled leg, caused by hard tackling in the early part of the second period Mac- Coy was able to make his trained toe kick accurately. 4km?" __ i0flicial Closing Day Golf Club llvlwet-n ‘Svvftlliy-"Vfi ainl one. huuilroil members of the (llftowni tioli‘ (Iluh gathered at the ('illl)‘ house oii Saturday lastto particl- paii- ut the ceremonies hiirlilent io tho oflh-li-il irloiiing day for the sea- f-ltlll. i Al. 2.3a the players iii the Ladies; and (itlllliklmfllfll singles drove off and, the weather niiin lieini: favor- hlr, and llle course and greens in eipleiidiil condition, a very enjoy- "hi!" two hours of golf resulted. l The. prizes [or hoth events, kind»! ~i;.1..ii‘iiri.;;s.;.>+ At Prince Edward pirate, only to meet an elemental lsliinil girl, who inukqg the (‘.on< iiueroi- captive -- Peter B, Kynes mm‘ “Sig; w w‘ masterly story, “Breed 0f the Sea‘ is a picture for those who ilreain i oi‘ est-iipiiii: from the Dlllflylllli‘ and petty worries oi‘ daily i-xlsionizo to . live the life of glorious adevniure.
