One mem- bership fee was paid. Minutes of previous meetlngwere read and adopted and a letter of thanks from st. On January 18th the members of South Melville Women's Insti- tute met at the home of Mrs. Ei- lison Toole. The meeting opened with the president in the chair and by singing the Institute "Ode" followed by the "Creed" in unison. The roll call was answered by each member exchanging gifts. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. and corre- spondence was read and discussed. A letter from the social welfare convener was read and discussed and it was decided that ten cents be sent for the small booklet en- titled "Personal Protection". It was also decided that the secretary get material to start the sewing for the Orphanage. Sick committee reported several treats sent to the sick and shut- ins during the Christmas season. CLYDE RIVER PEESBYTERIAN The Clyde River Presbyterian Missionary Society met on Thurs- day evening. Jan. loth. at the home of the president, Mrs. James Beer. Theme for the meeting was "in the beginning was the word" and call to worship was taken from the 96th Psalm. which was read re- sponsiveiy, and prayer by the pre- sident. Each member present read I portion of Scripture taken from the first chapter of John. and this was-followed with prayer by Mrs. Nicholson and the devotional parti closed with the singing of the New Year Hymn, "At Thy Feet Our God and Father". Roll call was answered with a verse of scripture and the min- utes of the previous meeting were read. New Year readings were' given by Mrs. George Hyde and? Mrs. Nicholson. also a missionary letter from Mrs. Lillian Dickson concerning her work in Formosa. This was read in part by Mrs. Ev- erett Murray and Mrs, Keith Young. An interesting story.
