Tue Axes Acatn.—The many friends of Mr. James Brazil, for the past ten or twelve years the very efficient and faithful caretaker of the Poat Office building here, regret to learu that he has been relieved of his position, to which Mr. Angus McSwee: succeeds on Wednesday next, September ist. Mr. Brazil has always discharged his duties efficiently and well, and to the satisfaction of the department and the public, and we know of no charge that can be brought against him. He has not taken any active part in politics, beyond quietly voting. But this makes no dif- terence with the preaent government. Re- veraing the policy of the previous adminis- tration in regard to public officials, the Liberals, when they desire any particular office for one of their supporters, simply create a vacancy in that office, without even the formality of bringing any charge against the former incumbent or going through the empty farce of an investiga- tion. In the present case, no charge is made rgainst Mr. Brazil, that we are aware of, but he is made to “walk the plank” after years of faithful service, at ridiculously short notice, and to tle great surprise and regret of the public iu! geoeral.—Summerside Journal. | it Havanaofthe Daily Chronicle in a letter from Cuba, telle of further cruelty and distress in that Island.
