SUCCESSFUL MINK RAISING. -- lThe mink farming industry in this lprovint-e has been watched. with a- bout as much interest as that of fox farming although so far not as exten- sively engaged in it. Those, however, who have taken tip the business in earnest have made a success of it and have found it a most prolitable side line. Mr, Nelson Woldron of Tyne Valley may well be regarded as the pioneer ot this ltttsittt-ss and his son- tittut-tl sttf't~r.»s.~ is little loss than phe- ttotnettial. Last yt-ar Tho Guardian re- ported a .spletttlitl increase ttot only in Mr. \'t'aldron‘s ranch at Tyne Valley but in all the rant-lies to whit-lt he had previous rt-t~0rtls_ Ile wintt-red eight sold animals. This yt-ar surpasses all pairs of mink and each pair has pro- duced a litter. forty three young mink in ull. Tltesc- are all pure bred I’rinf1- l-ldwartl Island mink and dark and beautifully furred. The ranch of Mr. ` J. R. Brehaut. Montague. which re- ported nine litters from eleven pairs a few days ago in The Guardian did well. but his western competitor has outclassed him. The success met with by both Mr. \\`aIdrou and Mr. Brehaut proves cont-lusively tltat mink breed- ing has now passed the experimental stage atid that the business can be successfully and profitably prosecuted in this province. SUCCESSFUL MEETING. - On Thursday evening Prof. Ross .address- ed an agricultural meeting in the new hall at Grahame Road. He spoke on the feeding of cattle. pointing out that it was not sutllcient simply to give the cows all they would eat. but if they were to be fed at the greatest profit the kind of food, they were fed on must ‘be taken into consideration. Milk, he _ said. was a certain definite substance. containing a certain amount of pro- hydrates and a. variable amount of butter tat. Before the cow could give 100 lbs. of milk `she must have eaten food containing at least the amount of protein that was required In that quantity of mlllt. In addition to this . she must also eat enough food to sup- ply the protein required to keep up the wear and tear ofthe body. Prof. Ross dealt with this subject fully, making use of charts prepared there- on. He then answered a number of questions with regard to feeding. The discussion was carried on by Messrs James 0’Connor_ Cass, McLeod. White- head and others. at the close ot which l a vote of thang; was presented to Mr Ross. In acknowledging the vote of thanks Mr Ross brought to the ntten-l tion of the meeting the Provincial Patriotic Abstinence Movement. and. urged upon them to sign the pledge* Mr Thomas Wlgmore presided at the ` meeting. which was largely attended.; Mr Roos wal Invited lo go back as; soon so possible to 0ro.bam‘s Road to- condnct addreisee on cattle teedlng. l uid bm ‘ ~ I tt PERF _(Sweet-tootlai 191 ECT iHelp Appetite and Digestion- WRlGLEY’S comes in two delicious ‘__ flavors.
