A few days ago I saw a very heel contracted or sm: lier than the other. This colt is only two years old. Ll inquired for the cause, and was told that it crew out of shape in the pasture. I have no doubt but thatthe troub'e was caused in the stable, and the colt was turned to pasture with his foot eut ol shape. For the past two years | have been in the habit of inspecting my young stock every month, and when[ seea colt with the feet out of normal shape, with one quarter longer than the other, or the toes growiog longer than the other, or the toes growiug too long, I at once have the teet put ia proper shape by the use Of rasps, both coarse and fine. The outsidé quarter of most colt’s feet is thicker than the inside, and seems togrow faster, therefore the toe and outside quarter generally needs more rasping to keep the feet level than the inside. There is no doubt but that ringbones are produced and the tendons are in- jured by the strain that is caused by allowing the toes and quarters to grow to an unsightly length, as is sometimes secn during the winter in many stables. Another source of trouble is caused by allowing coltsto stand in manure and filth until thrush gets into the cleft of the trog, which is liable to result in con- traction of the heels. To keep the fee healthy, the colts should have a yard to run in when the weatheris pleasant. The box should be kept dry, clean, wel! lighted and, ventilated, aud should be well bedded, so that the feet ' of] SLaLIS will not stand on the hard floor. If it pays’ to breei colts, it pays to keep them sound” and healtby, and it cannot be done without the best of care, with plenty of geod food the first two years especially. — F. I. Gerald, M., D. in Am. Cultivator. ne ee = Landlord. Von Moltke and the THE GREAT STRATEGIST NINETY-SEVEN FRANCS. how SAVED One day a German soldier arrived at an inn in a Swiss town, fatigued, dusty, and travel-worn. The landlord was on the point of telling him he was “full,” but finally ordered the waiter to show the *‘old man” to a dismal little room in the upper part of the house. The yaiter shortly after brought him a little book in which he asked him to sign his name, Which he did, the waiter carry- ing the book back to the landlord, look- ing at the name and wringing his hands, “What have I done? In one of the serv- ant’s bedrooms! My hotel will be ruined.” And he flew about as if halt erazy. Ail the waiters were summoned, the handsomest suit of rooms in the house ordered in immediate readiness, and the conscience-stricken landlord departed for the upper regions to make his apologies te the seedy-looking “‘old man,’ and to transfer him to more elegant quarters. “I beg ten thousand pardons. I would not have done it for the world, but I didnot know that it was you—ten thousand pardons,” said the quaking landlord, half out of breath. “But what have you done that you should need to be pardond?” asked the “old man.” “This room—it is not the room for you. It was a mistake. I did not know who it was. I have rooms for you below-—an elegant suite of rooms—may I beg you have you baggage removed to them at once?” “May Lask you what is the matter with this room?” inquired the “old man” only 100 franco a day.” ‘And the price of this room is how much?” “A bavatelle—but 3 francs.” ‘ Well, as my stay is short, you must exeuse me if I do not change my quarters. I think I shall sleep as sound on that bed as on any bed in your house.” Avod Von Moltke, the great military strategist, was allowed to remain undisturbed, much to the ansoyance sad chagrin of the landlord. + > ee fhe Great French Remedy, LeDuc’s Periodical Pils. — Dr. For ihe cure of Leucorrhe@wa or White’s E cessive or painful Menstruation, Groen Sickness, Falline of the Womb, Catarrh of the Uterus « Vagnin, Hysteria, pain inthe Back, or Piles, or for the puejose of in- Vigorating and “iving tone to the Generati: Org-ns, two pills eheuld be taken twiee daily, or in verv en, febled conditions, one pill three times aday, To effoci cures in chronic cases 1t will be necessary to continue he use of the reme¢y for some months, "A reasonabie trial will create sntficient confidence in the remedy to insure its being takeu until a permavent cure is ef- eutoa, Srarge Kionzy Pav Co Toronto, " $1 Kin treet, W. It has had many imitators, but none have so fully met all the requirements needful for the proper treatment of the hair and scalp. HALw’s Hain Renewerr has steadily grown in favor, and spread its fame and usefulness to every quarter of the globe. I{s unparal- leled success can be attributed to but one cause: the entire fulfilment of its promises, The proprietors have often been surprised at the receipt of orders from remote coun- tries, where they had never made an ellort for its introduction. The use for a short time of HALL’S HAIR RENEWER wonderfully improves the per- sonal appearance. It cleanses the scalp from all impurities, cures all hwmors, fever, and dryness, and thus stimwiates the weakened glands, and cnables them to push forward a new and vigorous growth, The eifects of this article are not transient, like these of aleoholie prepara- tions, but remain a long time, which makes its use a matter of econoniy.
