The station. home of Number 2 Mari- time Operational Training Unit. recently received three of the sleek sub-lrillers for use in the train- ing program carried out there. Prior to this spring only the tune had been in use at Green- wood for over a year. This meant that the crews graduating from Summerside to Greenwood had to undergo a further training period at the valley base before they could fly operationally with the two maritime squadrons stationed there. The next course to graduate from Summerside will be able to AIR FOROE DAY VISIT YOUR SUMMERSIDE RCAF STATION All. For one thing it caused a division in the Maritime course. Now. some crews had to be train- ed on Neptunes while others has still to be turned out on Lancaster. to meet the demands of 407 squad- ron at Comox B.C.. who still em- ploy the World War II bombe. Servicing and maintenance of the new aircraft raised other diffi- culties. It was necessary to train personnel on the vastly more com- "cated Neptune and the same on their regu- lar flying schedule. To date most of these problems appear to be solved. The OTU ad- justed its training syllabus to ac- commodate the new aircraft and the men were trained to service them. The Neptune is the most effici- ent anti-suhniarine aircraft flying today. it incorporates improve- ments in equipment and design that were unheard of when the aircrew of the RCAF flew so valiantly during the Battle of the Atlantic in the last war. Every piece of gear necessary for track- ing down and killing submarines is of the most modern type in the air. At present the whole interior of the aircraft is guarded by a security classification that pre- vents all but bare mention of its capabilities. Suffice it to say that the undersea killcrs of any future war will be hard pressed to stay y to operational fly- , SATURDAY IIINE 9 We are happy to pay tribute to our Airmen on this occasion and urge our citizens to visit the- RCAF STATION, SUMMERSIDE It's our Air Force.
