At the heels of an early dull spell, the rush was touched off by brisk demand for newsprints that boost- ed St. Lawrence Paper preferred 5 1-4 points to 45 1-4. St. Lawrence Corp. preferred jumped 2 1-2 while Howard Smith, Bathurst and Price gained l. 1-2 each. Metals. backward at the start displayed strength. Rail equip- ments and oil worked fractions to a point higher. A four point gain for Gatineau Power preferred at 76 was traced to s. price readjustment.
