Abltilll" It has been learned from official st-urces that although it will be a month or so before the financial statement oi Abitibi Power and Paper Company covering 1929 will be made public, there is pretty good ground for stating that this stale- lnent will nrove a satisfactory one to the shareholders. ' Some elements of it will probably come as a. pleasant surprise. The vice-pi siclent and managing director l... R. Wilson, effectively set at rest recently any doubt as to the main- tenance of the dividend on the 6 per cent preferred stock. Apparently the decline in this stock to a point where it was showing a return of over nine per cent. had been due to some anxi- ety as to whether the dividend was reasonably] certain. Indeed a. preliminary estimate, it is understood, shows thLo dividend as earned between one and a half and two times during 1929. This would indicate somewhere around $10 and $11 a share on this stock, of which 348,818 shares are outstanding, an amount equivalent to between $3.- 500,000 and $3,800,000. As the com- mon stock comes after this it follows that a very substantial sum will be shown as available for the junior security. The 1929 statement, it is said, will show agood increase in earnings over the previous year and in addi- tion will indlcate a very strong work- ing capital position. Stock Ownership The great increase in the number of stockholders ranging from 2O to 35% reported since the “break" by the leading corporations of the coun- try may be inierlareted as a. swing ‘cu to the college as missionary, UNITED ollulwll 0F CANADA] Kcnslngton, Feb. 23. BRAHMIN TEA For some time past there ‘has been a steady decline ill the price of low grade teas, at the same time all good drinking Orange Pekoc teas have ad- vanced, in fact, this week's quotations from the gardens, for Brahmin Tea, show a. still further advance, as buy- ers are very keen to secure this qual- ity Orange Pekoe. In view of this, the price of Brallmin Tea. which has always been low, for the quality will remain unchanged. Tea is a food, so make no mistake —get the finest quality when you can away from speculation toward bona fide investment. it doubtless re- presents not only the buying for more or less permanent holding of the shares of our industrial giants at the favourable prices at which they have been selling, but also a tendency on the part of those who bought them at higher levels to for- get their paper losses, transfer tllc stock to their own name and await ultimate recovery. Such broad ownership as is now current is strong attestation of widespread faith in the ultimate destiny of Canadian business and in the great organiza- tions which lnove in its vanguard.
