The Christian virtue of faith gives us this vision of the world. . and hence. meets this basic need of ours We also need someone to love. A vision of the meaningfulness of life is not enough. Part of that vision tells us that no man has within himself the source and completion of his own happiness. We are meant to give ourselv- es to others, to serve them. It is Man Must Love In Order TO Live in doing this that we find our ful- l-f our lives are meaningful. I “111mm 35 me“: this is a sign that three of curl Man is essentially a lover and if he fails to find someone to love, his life is just as empty and meaningless as if he had no vision. T Christian virtue of char- ity gives us the object our need to love demands. By it. we are. enabled to love God our Father with our whole heart and soul and mind and strength. But we do this not only di- rectly through worship, but also by loving our neighbor as our- d selves out of love for God. DIVINE DIRECTION And so our basic need to love is directed by God toward all of those with whom we live, work and play. It is in loving sex-Vice toourbro ersands ersin Christ that a new depth is given to our peace of soul. There is still a third and per- haps a more farceaching need in man. Each of us needs a fair hope of warding off disaster and of achieving ultimate success. It is not enough to see what someone. we must also know that the goal our vision of tile presents to us is attainable by us. If this third ingredient is lack- ing. our whole life is marred at its source and our peace of soul is shattered. My life is just as meaning- lifeis.itisnot enotigh to love, By His Resurrection. Christ has broken through the great barrier thatconfronts us. And now He holds out to us the prom- ise of the same in our own lives. - So we call Him our Saviour. The Christian virtue of hope then. enables us to realize that by the merits of Christ, we shall receive from God whatever help we need in this life to love prop- erly, that is to become fully hu- an. In addition. it names us that if we are faithful to this task. we shall receive peace and joy and happiness beyond measure. not only in this life. but most of all. in the life to come. our life with Our Father for which we were made.
